Policy analysis

In this area we conduct basic research to gather data on the policies launched with the aim of improving the quality of justice or some of its dimensions. The geographical scope is predominantly European, with reference to the countries of the Union and the Council of Europe. The focus is mainly descriptive and analytical.

Policy evaluation

The studies have also been addressed to the evaluation of specific policies, in order to assess their effectiveness and impact on the quality of the justice system. In such cases, the research involves the analysis of the linkages between the policies and the values and are the basis of judicial activity as impartiality, independence, fairness, effectiveness and efficiency. This requires working on the one hand with the values and principles, and on the other hand with the methodological and theoretical tools that can measure the effects of policy.

Key players

A focus is also devoted to the role of institutional actors with a recognized role in the evaluation process of justice policies and, more generally, the functioning of justice system, such as the Venice Commission, the Commission for the Efficiency of Justice of the Council of Europe or the so-called "judicial networks". In this area, the research aims to grasp the innovative and growing role of such institution in the evaluation and promotion of high quality justice systems.
